This series of trails is a hidden treasure up in the Blue Mountains. Whilst locals have run these tracks for a few years, the Woodford Dam area has only recently been formally opened up for recreation. This will be Running Wild’s last race before Six Foot Track, so come along and tune up for the big event.
The course travels along Wellseley Road and heads down a steepish rocky trail into a valley. In the valley runners take a right turn along the unusually named Transit of Venus Track and head along 1km of single trail past two small waterfalls. Runners will then climb out of the valley and link up with Woodford Creek Trail. The Course descends back down towards Woodford Dam and follows the dam edge. Just past the dam the going gets tough with a steep climb up Winbourne Road Fire Trail. This climb lasts about 1km before levelling off at the top of the ridge. The course continues along the ridgeline before reaching the turn point at Winbourne Road gates. After rehydrating, runners will turn and retrace your steps back to the start/finish area.
The course elevation change is in the region of 600m. There will be a manned aid station at the turn point with water, sports drink and other goodies. There will also be an unmanned aid station where runners connect onto Woodford Fire Trail.
