Glenbrook Marathon

Course Description

With its fair share of beautiful single and fire trails, the Glenbrook Trail Marathon is a true trail running experience with some challenging climbs, spectacular scenery and some downhills.

The event hub is in Euroka Clearing – a great bush escape and only an hour from Sydney. The course takes runners on a tour of all the major points of interest in the National Park from lookouts, Aboriginal artwork and some rarely seen places.

Frequently asked questions

What is the route for the Glenbrook Marathon?

The marathon starts with a quick lap of Euroka Clearing, followed by an ascent up the ‘Goat Track’ to Mount Portal Lookout.

Runners will then descend Mount Portal, take a right turn to single tracks leading to Camp Fire Creek, and follow the creek uphill to Red Hands Cave.

The course continues to Nepean Lookout, then retraces the route with a side trip to Pisgah Ridge Fire Trail. The final 8 km include a downhill on the Oaks Fire Trail and Bennetts Ridge Fire Trail, finishing back at Euroka Clearing.

Can I qualify for the Six Foot Track Marathon through this event?

Yes, both the 34 km and 42 km events are qualifiers. To qualify, you need to complete:

  • 34 km in 4hr 15min
  • 42 km in 5hr 15min
What are the cut-off times for the 3 events?

The cut-off times for the three events are;

  • 25km – 4 hours,
  • 34km – 5 hours
  • 42kms – 6 hours. If you have not reached the Pisgah out-and-back aid station (24 km) within 3.5 hours of starting, you won’t be able to finish the marathon within the cut-off but can complete the 34 km race instead.
Is there catering available on the day?

Runners and volunteers will get a free coffee/hot chocolate from our coffee van, and then hot food and cold drinks are available at the finish line.

How can I volunteer for the event?

We welcome volunteers for various roles including aid stations and course marshalling. Please contact us if you’re interested in helping out.

Are headphones / walking poles allowed?

Due to the terrain we run on, we ask all runners not to use headphones at our events. This is so you can stay aware of what others around you are saying and hear if anyone needs your attention. Also, a big part of trail running is being social – so have a chat along the way!

Walking poles are allowed at our events, but we ask runners to be mindful of where they use them and not hinder other runners on any narrow or technical trails.

What are the distance options and their routes?

42.2km Marathon: Follows the full route as described above.

34 km Option: Same as the marathon but skips Pisgah Ridge Fire Trail.

25 km Option: Follows the marathon route until the top of Red Hands Cave Fire Trail, then takes an immediate left onto the Oaks Fire Trail for a downhill finish.

Where are the aid stations located and what will they provide?

Aid Station 1 (7.5 km): Water, Fruit

Aid Station 2 (13 km): Water, Electrolyte, Fruit

Aid Station 3 (18 km / 35 km): Water, Electrolyte, Coke, Fruit

Aid Station 4 (21 km / 24 km / 32 km): Water, Electrolyte, Coke, Fruit

Aid Station 5 (37.5 km): Water, Electrolyte, Coke, Fruit

All aid stations have emergency pads and tampons, hand sanitiser, rubbish and recycling bins, friendly volunteers who are happy to help and are in contact with First Aid if needed.

There will be no cups at the aid stations on the course. As all runners are required to have the capacity to carry 500mls of water and to reduce our landfill contribution, we ask runners use their own collapsible cups or flasks.

Are there toilets available?

Within Euroka clearing there are 9 toilets. Of these 7 are easily accessible with a 2-3 minute walk. The other 2 are a little further away, but still easily reached. Note, there is also a toilet at the Red Hands Cave car park, approximately 13.5k into the course.

What mandatory gear do I need?

You must carry at least 500 ml of water. In accordance with our policy, we have a “No Water No Result” rule, i.e. if you fail to carry water, you will fail to receive a result. Our on-course marshals will also be looking for this, so be sure to carry your water. We do not provide cups at aid stations.

Do I need any safety gear?

Whilst not compulsory, we recommend runners wear gloves on the trails, such as bike gloves, as these will help protect your hands in case of a fall. Injuries to hands are the most common injuries our Event Safety Services team see. Please be mindful of the weather and dress appropriately.

Where can I find the race results?

Race results will be available on Tempus Timing.
