Frequently asked questions
What is a lap race?
The Saints and Sinners Lap Race is a bit like a relay event – runners do a 5km lap, before tagging the next runner in their pair or team in the race hub for their turn to do a lap. Only one runner from each team/pair will be on the course at any one time, while the rest of the team/pair stays in the race hub area, enjoying the party vibe. If you are a solo runner, you continuously run laps for the 3 or 6 hours you’re registered for. The event timing will record the lap time each runner gets, as well as how many and how fast laps are for each team/pair. Whether you’re in a team, a pair or running solo, the aim is to run as many laps as you can.
What is the route for the Saints and Sinner lap?
The race hub for Saints and Sinners, where each 5km lap starts and finishes, is in the school courtyard surrounded by sandstone buildings. Runners head east toward the Springwood Ridge trail, on to some winding single track and back on to the Springwood Ridge trial where they’ll come across Aid Station 1, which directs them onto more winding trails that generally head south and then west, before coming to the oval where aid station 2 is. After the oval is a little steep downhill trail onto more single track, and the Saints and Sinners bridge, before hitting some fire trail, pavement and a loop around a pond that heads back toward the school buildings.
All Running Wild events are marked as well as possible, with course marshals at key points.
Is there catering available on the day?
Runners and volunteers will get a free coffee/hot chocolate from our coffee van, and then hot food (usually a sausage sandwich) and a cold drink at the finish line.
How can I volunteer for the event?
We welcome volunteers for various roles including aid stations and course marshalling. Please contact us if you’re interested in helping out.
Are headphones / walking poles allowed?
Due to the terrain we run on, we ask all runners not to use headphones at our events. This is so you can stay aware of what others around you are saying and hear if anyone needs your attention. Also, a big part of trail running is being social – so have a chat along the way!
Walking poles are allowed at our events, but we ask runners to be mindful of where they use them and not hinder other runners on any narrow or technical trails.
What are the distance options and their routes?
Event options include running as part of a team (3-4 team members), a pair (2 members), or as a solo runner. As a team/pair/solo you can choose how long you are participating for – 3 or 6 hours.Everyone runs the same 5km lap.
Where are the aid stations located and what will they provide?
Aid Station 1 (2km): Water, Fruit, Electrolytes, lollies, chips and coke.
Aid Station 2 (3.5km): Water, Fruit, Electrolytes, lollies, chips and coke.
Race Hub (5km): Water, Fruit, Electrolytes, lollies, chips and coke.
All aid stations have emergency pads and tampons, hand sanitiser, rubbish and recycling bins, friendly volunteers who are happy to help and are in contact with First Aid if needed.
There will be no cups at the aid stations on the course. As all runners are required to have the capacity to carry 500mls of water and to reduce our landfill contribution, we ask runners use their own collapsible cups or flasks.
Are there toilets available?
The school toilets will be open for use at the race hub. There are no toilets on the 5km course.
What mandatory gear do I need?
You must carry at least 500 ml of water. In accordance with our policy, we have a “No Water No Result” rule, i.e. if you fail to carry water, you will fail to receive a result. Our on-course marshals will also be looking for this, so be sure to carry your water. We do not provide cups at aid stations.
Do I need any safety gear?
Whilst not compulsory, we recommend runners wear gloves on the trails, such as bike gloves, as these will help protect your hands in case of a fall. Injuries to hands are the most common injuries our Event Safety Services team see. Please be mindful of the weather and dress appropriately.
Where can I find the race results and photos?
How old do you have to be to run in this event?
Our Saints and Sinners Lap Race will allow runners as young as 11 years old, as long as they are in a 3hr team. They can run up to 2 laps (not consecutive laps). Contact us if you’d like to discuss any other circumstances related to age.
